i. The Device

What is
Dermalux MD MK II?

Dermalux MD MK II is the world's leading clinical LED phototherapy device — used in hospitals, research facilities and specialist clinics across the UK and internationally. It delivers three precisely calibrated wavelengths of light simultaneously, each targeting a different biological process within the skin and underlying tissue.

Unlike consumer LED devices, the MD MK II is a Class IIa medical device — CE marked, FDA cleared and MHRA registered. The clinical evidence base spans over 3,000 published studies. The results are measurable, documented and reproducible.

ii. Tri-Wave Technology

Three wavelengths.
One session.

The Dermalux MD MK II simultaneously emits blue, red and near-infrared light — each penetrating to a different depth, each triggering a different cellular response. No other device does all three at medical-grade intensity in a single treatment.

415 nm · Blue Light

Bacteria. Acne. Clarity.

Blue light at 415nm targets and destroys the acne-causing bacteria Cutibacterium acnes within the follicle. Clinically proven for acne vulgaris — without antibiotics, without irritation, without systemic side effects.

633 nm · Red Light

Collagen. Healing. Renewal.

Red light at 633nm stimulates fibroblast activity, triggering new collagen and elastin production. It reduces inflammation, accelerates wound healing and delivers the cell renewal at a rate Dermalux documents as 200% above baseline.

830 nm · Near-Infrared Light

Deep tissue. Pain. Recovery.

Near-infrared at 830nm penetrates below the dermis into muscle and joint tissue. It reduces musculoskeletal pain, aids wound healing at depth, and is used clinically for conditions including psoriasis, rosacea and chronic inflammation.

Good to Know

Questions, answered.

Is the treatment painful?
Not at all — it's simply light. Most clients find it deeply relaxing and many drift off to sleep.
Is there any downtime?
None whatsoever. No needles, no recovery — you can return to your day immediately.
When will I see results?
Calmer, clearer, more radiant skin, building cumulatively over a course of six to twelve sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
A course of six to twelve, then top-ups. It's also a perfect finisher added to other treatments.
What does it treat?
Acne, redness, ageing, inflammation and skin healing.
viii. The Finisher

The layer that completes
everything else.

Dermalux works standalone — but it also works as the final layer of any clinical treatment. Added after Collagen Wave, SkinPen, NOON peels or any procedure that creates skin stress, it accelerates healing, reduces redness and charges the recovery process from the moment you leave the room.

Add Dermalux to any treatment

A 20-minute Dermalux finisher session is available as an add-on to any existing skin treatment at Matt Newbery Professional. One of the most effective upgrades in the clinic — and one of the most straightforward.

Before & Aftercare

Everything you need to know.

Dermalux is one of the gentlest treatments there is — non-invasive, no heat, no UV and no downtime. It suits almost everyone, but because it's light-based, there are a few things worth knowing first.

Is it right for you?

Please let me know before your appointment if any of these apply:

  • You have epilepsy or seizures that can be triggered by light
  • You have a photosensitivity disorder such as porphyria, photosensitive eczema or albinism
  • You have an autoimmune condition such as lupus
  • You have an active cancer
  • You're taking photosensitising medication — oral or topical retinoids (including isotretinoin/Roaccutane), certain antibiotics (doxycycline, tetracycline), some antidepressants, NSAIDs, antifungals or amiodarone
  • You have an eye condition such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration or recent eye surgery — eye shields are worn either way
  • You're prone to light-induced headaches or migraines
  • You've had recent injectables, sunburn, or started strong new actives in the area — we'll time it right
  • You're pregnant or breastfeeding — no known risk, just not formally tested, so we'll have a quick chat and treat case by case

Some of these mean light therapy isn't the right fit; others just need a quick check or eye protection. If you're unsure, ask me.

Aftercare

This is the easy bit — there's no downtime at all:

  • Go straight back to your day, make-up included — nothing to avoid
  • Skin may look a little flushed briefly; that's just boosted circulation, and it settles quickly
  • Drink plenty of water — it helps the cellular boost do its work
  • Wear a daily SPF as general good skin-health practice
  • It's cumulative, so complete your recommended course for the best result
  • It pairs beautifully as a finisher after other treatments, which I'll often build in
